Radio
I’m currently on maternity leave and recently left the role of Programme Manager at the classical music station Scala Radio. I joined Bauer in January 2019 ahead of the Scala Radio launch on 4th March that year.
Previously, I worked as Producer and Executive Producer at a range of music and speech networks including Classic FM, Heart, LBC, Xfm (now Radio X), CBeebies and Absolute Radio, and at production companies such as TBI Media and Somethin’ Else.
At TBI Media, I produced the documentary ‘The John Bonham Story’ for BBC 6 Music & BBC Radio 2, winner of the Gold award for Best Music Special at both the Sony Radio Academy Awards and the New York Radio Festival Awards in 2011. I also co-produced ‘Absolute Blur’ for the Absolute Radio Network, winner of the Gold award for Best Live Event Coverage at the Sonys in 2010 and was part of the team who successfully pitched to produce Radio 2’s faith strand Pause For Thought.
I gained most of my early radio experience at Fresh Air, Edinburgh’s student radio station, and shortly after graduation was selected as part of the Xtra Talent team at BBC 1 Xtra. Since then I’ve enjoyed a varied production and programming career, and was one of the Radio Academy’s inaugural 30 Under 30 in 2011. In recent years, I’ve been a judge selecting the annual 30 Under 30 list and have also judged a range of categories at the UK audio and radio awards, the ARIAs.

Music
I’m a big fan of many musical genres, and have scheduled music at radio networks including BBC 6 Music, Absolute 80s, Absolute Classic Rock, Classic FM, Xfm South Wales, CBeebies Radio and Fun Radio (now Fun Kids), as well as curating the classical music series ‘The Composers’ and ‘Classic Movies’ for Deezer. Find out more about my music scheduling experience here.
I have a particular passion for music composed for film, television and video games. I produced Saturday Night at the Movies at Classic FM from 2012 to early 2019 and the first three series of video game music show High Score presented by Jessica Curry.
I produced Mark Kermode‘s film music show at Scala Radio, along with the first ever weekly video game music show on UK national radio, The Console, from the station launch in 2019 until 2024. I also produced a range of series celebrating screen music including TV On The Radio hosted by Segun Akinola, She Scores presented by women film, TV and video game composers and a series presented by the Oscar-winning composer Anne Dudley.
Writing
In my role as Executive Producer at Classic FM, I wrote a book about creative collaborations between film directors and composers. The ‘Saturday Night at the Movies’ book was published by Elliott & Thompson in March 2018.
I really enjoyed speaking about director/composer collaborations at Stoke Newington Literary Festival, Berwins Salon North at Harrogate International Festivals and at Screen Music Connect at London’s Southbank Centre. If you’d like me to speak at your event about this subject or other aspects of screen music, get in touch!
I am currently writing a book about film music with Mark Kermode, due for release in 2025. Watch this space!
Film
My interest in the film world extends beyond music composed for the screen, and I was a Trustee at the Cambridge Film Trust, organisers of the Cambridge Film Festival from 2018 to 2022.
In 2018, I completed a MSc in Creative Industries Management at Birkbeck, University of London, and my dissertation explored the impact of staff engagement on the customer experience at independent cinemas and cinema chains.
Training
I have worked as a freelance Trainer since 2009, when I was employed by the Afghan Education Projects at the BBC World Service Trust (now BBC Media Action) to run workshops in Kabul about children’s radio production techniques.
I returned to Kabul to continue the training in 2010, and since then I have devised and carried out training workshops in Zambia, Algiers and Indonesia for BBC Media Action and BBC World Service, concentrating on a range of production techniques and also methods of generating non-traditional revenue through multi-platform content.
